One of the longest run surfing institutions, Maui Surf Clinics focuses on the entire surf experience from water safety to ocean awareness and surfing etiquette. The Maui Surf Clinics are right by the beach at the Shops at 505 on Front St. in Lahaina on Maui’s West side. There’s free and paid parking in the area and Maui surf lessons are available all day long. They’ll work with children 4-8 years if they’ve had swim lessons and use a special soft board to keep them safe. In addition, each instructor is CPR, first aid, and ocean lifeguard certified to make sure everyone stays safe.

They suggest that you put reef safe sunscreen on 15-30 minutes before your scheduled lesson. You’ll be provided with a rash guard (a long-sleeved shirt to protect you from UV rays) and some booties to grip onto your board with. You’ll also get the right size board for your size to make sure you’ve got the best tools for learning to surf. After your lesson, trade in your gear for refreshments and snacks and come back the next day to take another lesson or rent a board and try to surf on your own! Children under 8 must take a semi-private lesson for safety and supervision—all equipment is provided.
