Horseback Riding

What’s the best Maui horseback ride?

Upcountry Maui is the home of the paniolo, or the Hawaiian cowboy. Join the ranks of the modest upcountry folk and enjoy expansive views of the beautiful island of Maui while bonding with your horse. Even if you’ve never ridden a horse, the friendly guides will help you along the way and you’ll be riding like a pro in no time. There are all sorts of tours in vans, buses, helicopters and boats, but nothing connects you to the land and the natural landscape like riding a beautiful horse through tranquil landscapes. For a relaxing, beautiful, and peaceful morning or afternoon, treat yourself and your friends or family to an experience they won’t soon forget—horseback riding Maui style.

MendesRanch

A family owned business, the Mendes Ranch exudes the feeling of family, or “Ohana.” With an impressive 4.8-star rating on Google, one rider said that it was, “by far the best horseback riding experience I have ever been on.” Located in Central Maui, this is a convenient spot, no matter where you’re staying on the island. The views are stunning, the guides are fun, and the experience is unforgettable. Mendes Ranch offers two options for your Maui horseback ride, a morning and afternoon adventure.

Morning Oceanfront Trail Ride

This Maui horseback ride starts at the Mendes Ranch Corral and winds down a scenic valley all the way to the coast, where you will be wowed by the panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. The friendly guides would be happy to take photos of you and your group to make sure you have memories and keepsakes to recall this incredible experience of horseback riding Maui style. This ride begins at 9 am (check-in at 8:45am) and runs for 1.5 hours, leaving you in Central Maui to grab a delicious lunch.

Afternoon Oceanfront Trail Ride

For those of you that aren’t morning people (or have morning plans already), the afternoon ride begins at the Mendes Ranch Corral and takes you through the stunning valley in the warm mid-day and down to the glistening water of the Pacific Ocean. This ride lasts 1.5 hours and is led by smart, funny, and accommodating guides. Check in is at 12:15pm.

Triple L Ranch Maui

Placed up the slopes of Haleakala amongst the Paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) country, Triple L Ranch has been up and running for over 50 years and is one of the remaining working cattle ranches on Maui. Get away from the busy “tourist strip” for a peaceful Maui horseback ride.

Choose from a 90 minute or 2-hour horseback ride in the morning or afternoon and escape to the rural countryside of Haleakala’s pristine, scenic slopes. Wind your way down among grazing cattle, ancient rock formations caused by lava flow, and lush landscapes of tropical and native plants. With spanning views of the ocean, you can typically see the islands of Kahoolawe, Molokini, and the Big Island of Hawaii. Experienced guides will share information about the culture, history, and background of the ranch and the island with you on your journey and by the end, you’ll feel like you’re part of the “Ohana” (family).

Want a more immersive, intimate experience? There are also private 3.5 or 5.5-hour private, custom ranch tours, catering to any type of rider from beginner to advanced. See the incredible expansive views and stumble upon ancient ruins, which the guides will explain the significance of. This tour is never the same, so expect the unexpected when horseback riding Maui style with Triple L Ranch! Keep in mind, the tours accept riders ten years old and up and run in groups of six or less for a personalized experience.
